How to choose cable components?

Aug 01, 2025

RF microwave cable components are the core components for achieving stable transmission of high-frequency signals, and their characteristics mainly include the following key aspects:

1.Electrical performance characteristics

lLow loss and high bandwidth

The use of foamed polyethylene insulation layer (with a dielectric constant as low as 1.3) and precision inner conductor design (such as copper-clad aluminum or solid copper) significantly reduces skin effect losses and supports wideband applications covering DC-67GHz. Insertion loss can be eliminated through calibration, but low loss design is still beneficial for improving system energy efficiency.

lSignal integrity assurance

(1)Standing Wave Ratio (VSWR): High quality components have a VSWR close to 1 (such as≤1.25:1), ensuring that the signal reflection loss is below 0.08dB, which can reduce the bit error rate in multi carrier scenarios.

(2)Phase stability: Semi rigid cables use solid polytetrafluoroethylene medium, which has minimal phase change at high temperatures; Flexible cables are designed with armor and special structures, and the phase change during bending can be controlled within 5°.

lPassive intermodulation (PIM)

Semi rigid/semi flexible cables have excellent PIM characteristics (<-120dB) and are suitable for sensitive systems such as military radar.

2、Mechanical and Environmental Reliability

1. Dynamic stability

Flexible test cables need to have high mechanical phase/amplitude stability: insertion loss drift during bending should be≤0.1dB, phase change should be small, and measurement errors should be avoided. For example, the loss fluctuations caused by the bending of the 6GHz frequency band directly affect the accuracy of device testing.

2. Durability and adaptability

①With a lifespan of over 500 insertions and removals, the VSWR remains≤1.3:1;

②Adopting alloy shell and multi-layer shielding (aluminum foil+copper wire weaving, shielding efficiency≥90dB), it can withstand temperatures of -55℃~+265℃and 15g vibration acceleration, meeting the harsh environment of shipborne and airborne.

The cable components we produce have high mechanical reliability, low standing wave, low insertion loss, wear resistance, corrosion resistance, and long service life. They support customization and are welcome to purchase.
